Sooner or later the issues that make up the drama of life are turned into legal questions and the courts are asked to solve society’s problems.  The above headlines could be from today’s newspapers but appeared in Missouri in the early 1800’s.  They are just a part of the expansive exhibit – Verdict of History.

The Missouri State Archives contain hundreds of millions of pages of court records dating from 1783, more than 175 years of Supreme Court of Missouri case files, millions of pages of Court of Appeals, probate and circuit court records.

The exhibit will be supplemented with cases of local interest, a sprinkling of old laws, a look at area justices and lawyers and an opportunity to vote as a jury member in a mock trial and to test your knowledge of Missouri and U.S. laws.

Presented by Poplar Heights Farm
at the Bates County Museum
